World Patient Safety Day: September 17

On World Patient Safety Day, September 17, 2025, we recognize the commitment of everyone involved in patient care to improve, protect, and foster patient safety. This year’s slogan is “Patient safety from the start,” with a focus on ensuring safe care for every newborn and child.

The health care infants and young children receive can affect their health and well-being their entire lives. The World Health Organization is using this year’s World Patient Safety Day to educate patients and their health care teams on ways to safeguard all children, particularly those under the age of 10, against harm and ensure they receive appropriate, timely care.

Health care for children must take into account their unique needs, including their physical size, development rates, age-related health matters, and differing patterns of disease. Furthermore, caregiver education is critical for preserving and promoting pediatric health, as children are dependent on the adults in their lives to provide and advocate for them. Thus, the specific health care requirements of children can be quite different from those of adults.
