October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
In the United States, breast cancer is the second most common cancer; around 13% of women will develop breast cancer at some point in their lives. Nearly 317,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer and more than 59,000 new cases of non-invasive breast cancer are projected to be diagnosed in American women in 2025. This year alone, more than 42,000 American women are expected to lose their lives to breast cancer. However, roughly 2/3 of breast cancers are diagnosed at the localized stage, and when caught this early, the relative 5-year survival rate is 99%. The National Breast Cancer Foundation has some great resources to learn more about breast cancer detection and treatment: https://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/.
